Meta's Existential Crisis

Last week Meta laid off 11,000 workers in the company, and Zuckerberg issued a heartfelt apology. The layoffs are an unfortunate outcome of his decision to go all in on the metaverse, which has caused his company to hemorrhage money. The conditions that created Facebook in 2004 are not the same conditions that will build the metaverse in 2022. There is such a thing as having too many resources. For Zuckerberg to pull off the metaverse, he needs to step back from Meta, go surfing for a year, downsize to a smaller house, and return to his scrappy startup roots.
